About

No. 2 Main is a residency devoted to the grandeur of artistic expression in intimate, emotionally resonant settings.

Tucked beside the Williams River in the village of West Stockbridge, this modest 1830s mill house had many lives over time—unassuming, weathered, and full of character. When we first came upon it, the house whispered of potential. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Berkshires and the region’s rich artistic legacy—Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, The Mount, and so many others—it invited a vision of what might be.

We imagined a space where artists could slow down, reconnect with their practice, and be fully present—not just with their work, but with the place and people around them. No. 2 Main was born from that impulse: to create a salon-like environment where artistic inquiry thrives through intimacy, context, and dialogue.

This is not a retreat from the world, but a reframe within it. Here, ideas are exchanged over meals, artwork unfolds in real time, and the boundaries between living and making dissolve. The residency hosts one artist at a time to foster connection and quiet depth. Art is not extracted and isolated—it is lived with, talked through, and allowed to accumulate meaning.

Core Values

Intimacy: Creating space for artists to be deeply present with their practice, their ideas, and the people around them.

Context: Honoring the significance of place—its textures, histories, and rhythms—in shaping artistic output.

Dialogue: Encouraging thoughtful, iterative exchange between artists, curators, collectors, and the broader community.
